Smartabase can also be accessed via a desktop application, which has advantages making it more suitable for some users and certain situations. The desktop version uses Adobe Air, so you’ll need to have this installed to run Smartabase.

The desktop version contains the full functionality of Smartabase and can also be used in offline mode, whereas the browser version cannot. 

The changes or updates you making using the desktop version in offline mode need to be synchronised with the Smartabase server. This is so that your information is available to anyone else who needs to edit or view it.

The changes that you make while offline get uploaded whenever you log in online next. This happens in the background and won’t affect your use of the application. 

It is also important to synchronise your installed version of Smartabase to allow software updates to take place.

HOW TO: INSTALL THE DESKTOP VERSION OF SMARTABASE
  1. Go to the Adobe website, download and install the latest version of Adobe Air.
  2. Once you’ve done that, use your browser to navigate to the installation page for your Smartabase site, like this: https://SERVERNAME.smartabase.com/SITENAME/install.
  3. Download Smartabase and install it. It’s important that you do this from your own Smartabase site, so that the download package includes the forms and data you are able to use.
  4. When the installation is complete, open the application and enter your log in details.
